Each species is awarded a number of points per unit length (Species Points)
The Species Points are based on the average length of that species caught during the challenge.
Only the angler's longest fish of each species counts.
Total Points = sum of total points for all species caught
Species points may change during the challenge because the species length average changes as new fish are reported.

As you can see large fish species can have the same points as small species. This is because the points are based on averages of the species caught. This puts a bluegill on the same playing field as a bass.
